Primera by Metro MPKT 7616 steel tool set review: department-store steel

The Primera by Metro MPKT 7616 is a stainless steel tool set with department-store backing. The tools are decent and the retailer is real. The piece count is what makes it hard to recommend at the price.

What is good about it?

Stainless heads that will not warp, soften, or stain. Where a nylon turner slowly deforms over years of hot pans, steel simply does not have that failure mode. These are tools you buy once.

The TPR handles are a nice touch: soft, grippy when wet, and with metal-ringed hanging holes so the set stores on a rail. And it is dishwasher safe, which none of the wood-handled sets in this category can claim.

Metro Home behind it means a real retailer to deal with if something goes wrong, rather than a shop that may not exist next month.

Who is it actually for?

Only cooks with the right pans. Steel scratches non-stick, full stop. If your kitchen runs on a coated kawali, this set will slowly ruin it. It belongs with stainless pots, cast iron, and carbon steel.

That is not a defect, it is a fit question, but it rules out a lot of Filipino kitchens where a non-stick pan does most of the work.

Where does it come up short?

Four tools and no holder. For the money, that is thin. A slotted turner, a solid turner, a solid spoon, and a soup ladle cover the basics, but there is no whisk, no tongs, and nowhere to put them.

Buy this if you cook on stainless or cast iron, want tools that go in the dishwasher, and value buying through a real retailer over squeezing out the best value. Skip it if your pans are non-stick, or if you would rather have more tools for less.
