What should you buy first for a new kitchen?

Setting up a first condo or a boarding house room, buy in this order and add the rest once you know how you cook.

  1. A rice cooker comes first, because rice goes with nearly every meal and a pot of it on the stove ties up your only burner.
  2. Next, heat for everything else. If the unit has no stove, or the building does not allow LPG tanks, an induction cooker runs off a wall socket.
  3. Then one pan and one knife, bought after the cooker so the pan works on it. A non-stick pan handles eggs, fried fish and gisa, and a sharp knife from our knife set rankings does the chopping.
  4. An electric kettle boils water for coffee, noodles or a baby's bottle while the burner is busy with the ulam.
  5. Leave the air fryer and the oven toaster for later, when you know whether you fry, bake or reheat more.
