The Whirlpool MWX201 XEB is our Best simple dial model: a 20L, 700W microwave with six power levels and a global brand’s Philippine warranty behind it.

How well does it reheat?

Standard and reliable. 700W output is the norm for a 20L cavity and reheats a plate of rice and ulam in about two minutes. That’s the same output as the Condura, Midea, Hanabishi, and Whirlpool’s own digital 20L, so nothing separates them on speed.

The small advantage here is six power levels where most dial models give five. It’s one extra step between low and high, which helps a little when you’re warming something delicate. Be honest about the scale of it though: six coarse steps is not the same as the ten or eleven a digital panel offers.

Defrost is included. There’s no auto-cook menu and Whirlpool doesn’t list a child lock on this mechanical model.

Is it easy to live with?

Two dials and nothing to learn. That’s the whole proposition, and it’s a good one. There’s no touch membrane to stop responding in year three, no menu structure to remember, and anyone in the house can use it without being shown.

At 45.2cm wide and 34.8cm deep it’s one of the more compact units in our roundup, so it fits a standard counter or shelf without the overhang problem that catches people out with 30L models.

The brand is the other half of the argument. Whirlpool has a long-established Philippine presence with a 1-year parts-and-service warranty, so this isn’t an anonymous import.

At exactly the same price as the Condura mechanical, this is a close call, and the honest answer is that they’re very similar machines. Condura offers a nationwide PH service network and a far bigger rating sample (3,342 raters against 980), plus a child lock. Whirlpool offers one more power level and a globally recognized name. Both are 4.9-rated. Pick on which brand you’d rather deal with for a repair.

Who the Whirlpool MWX201 XEB suits

Buy this if you want a no-nonsense daily microwave from a brand you recognize, and you’d rather have dials than a panel. It’s the right choice for a small household, a rental, or a kitchen where several people of different ages use the microwave. If you want a child lock or auto-cook presets, step up to the digital MWX203 BL.
