A blackout curtain is one of the cheapest upgrades to how well you sleep, and one of the easiest to get wrong. Two mistakes account for most of it: buying semi-blackout when you needed full blackout, and buying one panel when the window needed two.

We started from the blackout curtains actually selling on Shopee PH and ranked them on four things:
How much light they really block. A stated 100% blackout is a different product from a panel that just darkens a room. We say which is which rather than letting “blackout” cover both.
What the seller publishes. Exact dimensions, fabric, header type, and care instructions. Curtains are a category where sellers stay vague, so the ones that publish get credit and the ones that don’t get called out.
Pack size honesty. A single panel at ₱349 is not cheaper than a two-panel set at ₱799. We note which is which throughout.
Real owner ratings, weighted by how many people rated. A 4.9 from more than a thousand raters is far stronger evidence than a perfect 5 from eight.
What to look for
Blackout vs semi-blackout. Bedroom or living room. Get this wrong and nothing else helps.
Two panels, not one. Aim for panels totaling about twice your window width so they hang in folds.
Measure rod to floor, not the window frame. 84 in suits a standard window, 96 in a high-mounted rod.
Header type. Grommets need a rod, not a track. Metal grommets outlast plastic ones.
Machine washable saves you a dry-cleaning habit over the years you own them.

What is the difference between blackout and semi-blackout?
Blackout blocks essentially all light through the fabric, so a bedroom goes properly dark. Semi-blackout filters daylight, cutting glare and heat while keeping a room bright. Buy blackout for bedrooms and semi-blackout for living areas.
Why does light still leak in around my blackout curtain?
Because the fabric and the installation are separate things. Even a true 100% blackout panel leaks at the edges and around the grommet holes. Mount the rod wider and higher than the window and overlap the panels in the middle to seal it properly.
Do blackout curtains help with the heat?
Yes. Blocking sunlight before it heats the glass and floor cuts how hard your aircon has to work, which is a real second benefit in Philippine weather. Heavier, fully lined blackout fabrics do more of this than thin darkening panels.
