10 Best blackout curtains in the Philippines (2026)

A blackout curtain is one of the cheapest upgrades to how well you sleep, and one of the easiest to get wrong. Two mistakes account for most of it: buying semi-blackout when you needed full blackout, and buying one panel when the window needed two.

We split stated 100% blackout from room-darkening

We started from the blackout curtains actually selling on Shopee PH and ranked them on four things:

• How much light they really block. A stated 100% blackout is a different product from a panel that just darkens a room. We say which is which rather than letting “blackout” cover both.
• What the seller publishes. Exact dimensions, fabric, header type, and care instructions. Curtains are a category where sellers stay vague, so the ones that publish get credit and the ones that don’t get called out.
• Pack size honesty. A single panel at ₱349 is not cheaper than a two-panel set at ₱799. We note which is which throughout.
• Real owner ratings, weighted by how many people rated. A 4.9 from more than a thousand raters is far stronger evidence than a perfect 5 from eight.

Blackout or semi-blackout: which do you need?

This is the decision that matters most, and the labels are used loosely by sellers.

• Full blackout blocks essentially all light through the fabric. The room goes dark. Buy this for a bedroom, and especially if anyone in the house works nights and sleeps during the day.
• Semi-blackout filters daylight. Glare and heat drop, the room stays usably bright. Buy this for a living room or dining area, where full blackout leaves you sitting in the dark at 2pm.

If a listing just says “blackout” with no percentage, assume it’s room-darkening rather than true blackout. The brands that mean 100% usually say 100%.

Most listings sell one panel, so buy them in pairs

Two, for a standard window. They meet in the middle and open from both sides.

This is where curtain pricing misleads people. Most listings sell a single panel, so a ₱349 curtain is really ₱698 for the window. A ₱799 two-piece set is often the cheaper buy. Always check the pack size before comparing.

For width, aim for panels totaling about twice your window width. Curtains are meant to hang in folds; a panel stretched flat across the opening looks thin and lets more light through the weave.

Measure from the rod to the floor, never the frame

Measure from the rod to the floor, not from the window frame. This is the single most common sizing mistake.

The common Philippine sizes:

• 84 in (about 213 cm) suits a standard window with the rod mounted just above the frame.
• 96 in is for high ceilings, or when you mount the rod near the ceiling to make the room look taller. That trick only works if the panel is long enough to still reach the floor.

Round up when you’re between sizes. A curtain pooling slightly on the floor looks deliberate; one finishing 10 cm short looks like a mistake.

Ceiling track at home? Grommet curtains won’t hang on it

• Header type. Grommet rings (metal-ringed top) need a rod, not a track. If your home has a ceiling track, grommets won’t work at all. Metal grommets beat plastic, which crack at the rod and tear the fabric.
• Washability. Many heavy blackout fabrics are spot-clean only. Machine washable saves you a dry-cleaning habit for as long as you own them.
• Certification. OEKO-TEX certified fabric has been tested for harmful substances, which is worth looking for in a bedroom or a child’s room.
• Color honesty. Light greys and beiges show dust faster. Textured weaves hold more dust than smooth panels.

What gets a curtain wrong for a Filipino bedroom?

• Blackout vs semi-blackout. Bedroom or living room. Get this wrong and nothing else helps.
• Two panels, not one. Aim for panels totaling about twice your window width so they hang in folds.
• Measure rod to floor, not the window frame. 84 in suits a standard window, 96 in a high-mounted rod.
• Header type. Grommets need a rod, not a track. Metal grommets outlast plastic ones.
