How many lumens does a desk lamp need for studying?
Around 400 to 500 lumens covers a normal study desk, which is what the Xiaomi lamps deliver at 500 to 520 lm. Small clip lamps sit far below that and light a book rather than a desk. Most marketplace lamps publish no lumen figure at all, so wattage is the only clue you get.
What is CRI and does it matter on a desk lamp?
CRI, written as Ra, measures how true colors look under the light. Ra90 and above is where colors stop looking washed out, which matters for reading, drawing, and anything with color. The Xiaomi Desk Lamp 2 and Baseus Smart Eye both reach Ra95, and cheap lamps almost never publish the figure.
