Smiling Shark SD0708 review: the light you'll actually have on you

The Smiling Shark SD0708 is our Best Keychain Light: a small rechargeable torch with an M77 lamp bead, cheap enough at around ₱641 to hang on every set of keys in the house. It publishes almost nothing about its output. That matters less here than it would anywhere else in this category.

Why does a keychain light get a slot at all?

Because availability beats brightness. The best flashlight during a brownout is the one in your pocket, not the 2,100-lumen thrower sitting in a drawer two rooms away. A keychain light is with you when the power cuts while you’re on the stairs, in a parking garage, or halfway home.

That’s the job. Finding a keyhole, reading a meter, walking a dark corridor, checking under a seat. Measured against that, a modest output is enough, and the fact that it’s rechargeable rather than running on button cells means it’s more likely to work when you press it.

What don’t we know about it?

The right way to think about this one is as an addition rather than an alternative: a household with a proper torch and a couple of these on keyrings is better covered than one with a single bigger light. Buy this if you already own a decent household torch and want a backup that’s genuinely always with you: on your keys, in a bag, clipped inside a motorcycle compartment.
