Smiling Shark YJ5805 review: the one that stands on its own legs

The Smiling Shark YJ5805 is our Best Freestanding work light: a COB panel on a telescoping tripod stand with an aimable head and a carry handle, at around ₱3,300. Nothing else in this category stands up by itself, and that, not the brightness claim, is what you’re paying for.

What does the tripod change?

Everything about how you use it. Every other light in our work-light picks is handheld, sticks to steel with a magnet, or hangs from a hook. Those are all fine when there’s something to attach to. The YJ5805 makes its own mounting point: extend the legs, raise the column, aim the head, and you have light falling on your work from above with both hands free.

That’s the difference between a torch you keep repositioning and a light you set up once. For a longer job, a repair in a yard, or a room with nothing to clip onto, it’s a genuinely different tool. It also folds flat with a carry handle, so it stores and travels better than its size suggests.

Should you believe 5,000 lumens?

No. Our work light buying guide sets out the arithmetic: SUPERFIRE, a brand that publishes verified figures, rates its own 10W COB panel at 800 lumens. A COB panel of this size producing 5,000 lumens would be several times more efficient than a documented light of the same type.

It will be a bright light. It will not be 5,000 lumens. Smiling Shark publishes no wattage, no runtime, and no battery capacity to reason from either, so the honest position is that the output is unknown and the number on the listing is marketing.

What else is missing?

An IP rating, which matters more here than usual. This is a light styled and sold for site work, standing outdoors on its own legs, and there’s no published figure for how it handles rain or dust. Assume light rain under cover at most.

There’s also no runtime. On a light you’d set up for a long job, not knowing whether it lasts two hours or eight is a real gap.

Is the Smiling Shark YJ5805 Work Lamp sulit?

Around ₱3,300 as of July 31, 2026. Check the latest price on Shopee. That is several times the price of every other work light in this category, and it needs justifying.

The justification is the stand, and only the stand. If you’d use it, it’s a fair price for a freestanding lamp that folds and carries. If you wouldn’t, the SUPERFIRE FS19-B at around ₱549 gives you a 36W area light with a published IP54 rating, a 6,000mAh battery, and a solar panel, for a fraction of the money. Most households will be better served by that one.

Who the Smiling Shark YJ5805 Work Lamp suits

Buy this if you regularly work somewhere with nothing to hang or stick a light on: a yard, a construction area, a room being renovated, or a long outdoor repair.
