The fifth cup is the one that saves you arithmetic

Four-piece sets cover a quarter, a third, a half and one cup. Five-piece sets add either two thirds or three quarters, and both turn up in recipes more often than people expect.

Without the extra cup you improvise: two thirds becomes two separate one-third scoops, three quarters becomes a half plus a quarter. That works, and it is also where miscounts happen, especially halfway through a recipe with sticky hands and a timer running.

The listing states five pieces and not which fifth size you get, so check the photos on the current listing if the distinction matters to you.

Technique beats every upgrade in this category

The single largest source of error in cup measuring is not the cup. It is how the flour gets into it.

Spoon the flour in and level the top with the back of a knife. If you dip the cup into the bag instead, the flour compacts and a cup can hold up to a quarter more than the recipe intended. That is a bigger error than any difference between a ₱96 set and a ₱503 one.

The other half is what a dry cup is for. Dry cups are filled to the brim and levelled, which cannot be done with liquid, so milk and oil belong in a graduated jug read at eye level.

What the price is not buying

Nothing in this category publishes a millilitre volume for its cups, this set included. A US cup is about 237ml, a metric cup is 250ml and a Japanese cup is 200ml, and a nested cup has no graduations to check.

The material is unstated too, which is true of sixteen of the eighteen dry sets here. So at this price you are buying piece count and a 4.9 rating from 210 Shopee ratings, and that is a reasonable thing to buy for under a hundred pesos.

Who should buy the Dynamex set

Buy this if you want the fractions covered cheaply and you already own measuring spoons. For a first set on a tight budget it is hard to argue with.

Skip it if you need spoons too, where a combined set is better value, or if you want stainless steel.
