The odd capacity is a good sign

Most jugs are sold as 250ml, 500ml or 1L, which are marketing numbers as much as measurements. A figure like 1165ml is not one anybody would choose.

Glassware is made in a mould, and the mould has whatever volume it has. An unrounded capacity usually means the number is the vessel’s real one rather than the nearest tidy figure above or below it.
