Dogs are far more prone to becoming overweight than cats, and obesity is the commonest preventable health problem they have. It shortens lives measurably. Tearing treats into pieces and taking a little food out of the bowl is the whole of the solution.

The things dogs must never be given

Worth having in one place on a treat page. Chocolate, grapes and raisins, onion and garlic, macadamia nuts, and above all xylitol, the sweetener in sugar-free gum, sweets and some peanut butters, which causes a dangerous drop in blood sugar and liver failure in dogs at small doses.
