Take the water out and the figure changes completely

The can publishes 17% crude protein and up to 81% moisture. Those two figures together are what matter, because a wet food is mostly water and the protein percentage on the label is measured including it.

Strip the water out and you are left with roughly 85 to 90% protein by dry weight. For comparison, the WHISKAS 7kg dry bag publishes 30% protein at 12% moisture, which is about 34% on the same basis.

So the can that looks weaker on the label is far and away the higher-protein food. That inversion is the single most useful thing to understand about buying cat food, and this listing is the clearest example of it on the whole shelf.

Maxwell also publishes 89 kcal per 100g. That is a useful cross-check rather than a separate fact: 17g of protein supplies around 68 kcal and 1.5g of fat around 14, which lands within a few calories of the published total.

In other words, the numbers agree with each other. Very little else in this category publishes enough to check, and several listings that do publish figures do not reconcile.

At around ₱73 as of August 1, 2026 for 400g, that is roughly ₱182 a kilo, which puts it among the cheapest large cans here. Almost nothing on this page gives you both a published analysis and a low price per kilo.

A 4kg adult cat needs roughly 200 to 250 kcal a day, so at 89 kcal per 100g a can of this is somewhere around a day’s food. Cover and refrigerate anything left and use it inside a day.

Tuna, and the caution that goes with it

A cat fed only on tuna is a genuine problem: plain tuna from the human aisle carries no added taurine, and cats cannot make enough of it themselves. This is sold as a complete food, which means those additions should be there, but it is worth keeping the two apart in your head. The tin of tuna in your pantry is not cat food.

Who should buy the Maxwell can

Buy this if you feed wet food daily, you want the most protein per peso you can verify, and you have the fridge space or the cats to finish a 400g can. On the published numbers it is the best value wet food on this page.
