How much does it actually support?

The hinges are the whole point. Aluminum gears let each hinge slide as it rotates, which matches the way the knee rolls and glides instead of turning on one fixed point. That means the rigid uprights can hold the joint hard side to side without fighting a normal bend. Hyperextension stops keep the knee from snapping straight backwards, which is the movement that re-tears things.

What is it like to wear?

Heavy. You feel the hinges, and they show under anything but loose trousers. The latex-free neoprene gives thermal compression, which is welcome on a stiff knee and unwelcome on a humid afternoon; the perforated back panel takes some of the edge off. Getting the size right matters more here than on any sleeve, because a hinge sitting in the wrong place is worse than no hinge.
