Lancing depth is the feature people underrate

The reason home glucose testing lapses is rarely the meter. It is that pricking a finger several times a day becomes unpleasant, and then it becomes something you skip.

A lancing device with adjustable depth attacks that directly. Thin or soft skin needs a shallow setting, which produces enough blood with much less discomfort. Calloused fingers, common in people who work with their hands, need a deeper one or the test simply fails and you have to prick again.

Nine settings is enough granularity to find the shallowest depth that reliably gives you a drop, which is the setting you want. Most people leave a device on its factory setting and test more painfully than they need to for years.

The rest of the technique, which costs nothing

Prick the side of the fingertip, not the pad. There are fewer nerve endings on the side and you use that surface less, so it hurts less both at the time and afterwards.

Rotate fingers. Using the same spot toughens it, which then needs a deeper setting, which hurts more.

A fresh lancet every time. A used lancet is blunted, and a blunt point hurts more and bruises more. They also should not be reused for infection reasons.

Warm hands. Run them under warm water and let the hand hang down for a few seconds. Cold fingers give up blood reluctantly, and the failed tests waste strips.

The claim on the listing that says less than it appears

Component origin does not tell you how accurate a meter is. The standard that does is ISO 15197:2013, requiring 95% of results within ±15% of a laboratory reference at 100 mg/dL and above, and within ±15 mg/dL below it.

No glucose listing on this page states whether it meets that. It is the question to put to the seller, and a meter that does meet it usually says so plainly.

The strips remain the purchase

Testing twice a day is around 730 strips a year, at roughly ₱5 to ₱6 each on this shelf, which is several thousand pesos annually and far more than any meter here costs.
