Gold Star Premium water heater review: 9,435 owners, one big caveat

The Gold Star Premium is our Best Budget shower heater: an LCD touchscreen 6,500W unit at around ₱1,400 with 9,435 owner ratings, the deepest feedback in this category.

We have to lead with this, because it is the thing that decides whether this heater is a bargain or a problem.

6,500W at 220V draws about 29.5 amps. That is a serious load. It needs its own dedicated circuit breaker and thick wire, and most Philippine bathroom circuits were not run for it.

So the ₱1,400 on the listing is not the cost of the project. If your bathroom needs a dedicated line pulled from the panel, the electrician’s bill will exceed the heater several times over. That is not a criticism of this unit, it is true of every 6,500W heater in the category, and nearly all of them are 6,500W.

If your wiring is limited, the honest options are Gold Star’s own Intelligence model, which switches down to 3,500W, or a 3.5kW branded unit like the Panasonic.

What do you get for ₱1,400?

An LCD touchscreen with adjustable water temperature, on a 6,500W element. At this price that combination is genuinely good value, and the 6,500W rating means strong flow once the wiring supports it.

What the listing does not publish is more important: no IP rating, no earth leakage protection, no warranty period.

That last group is the reason this ranks second rather than first. In a wet room at 230V, an ELCB trips on leakage as small as 30mA and is often the only real protection in a Philippine home where grounding is unreliable. Panasonic and Midea publish theirs. This does not.

The practical answer is not to avoid the heater, it is to buy the protection separately: have an electrician fit an RCD or ELCB at the panel, confirm the ground, and size the breaker properly. Do that and this is a reasonable purchase. Skip it and no price is low enough.

The evidence behind it is the strongest argument. 9,435 raters at 4.7, with 10K+ sold, is the deepest owner sample in this category by a wide margin. In a listing that publishes almost no specifications, that many reviews does a job a spec sheet cannot: a unit that leaked, failed, or tripped constantly in its first months would show up across that volume.

It is not evidence of safety hardware, and we would not present it that way. It is evidence that the thing works and keeps working.

Set the ₱1,400 against a wiring upgrade and the total may still come in under the ₱8,100 Panasonic. Set it against the Panasonic on a circuit that is already adequate, and you are choosing between documented protection and a touchscreen.

Who the Gold Star Premium suits

Buy this if your budget is tight, your bathroom circuit is already rated for a heavy load or you are willing to have one run, and you will fit earth leakage protection at the panel. It is the right choice for a renter or a household replacing a failed heater cheaply, with the biggest body of owner feedback in the category behind it. If your wiring is old and you cannot upgrade it, buy a 3.5kW unit instead.

If the Gold Star Premium is not right

If your wiring cannot take 29.5A, the Gold Star Intelligence is the same price and switches between 6,500W and 3,500W. If you want published safety hardware and a wattage that fits existing circuits, the Panasonic DH-3VS1PW draws about 15A with nine published safety points at around ₱8,100.
