Hanabishi HDC16SFBLK review: a DC fan at AC money

The Hanabishi HDC16SFBLK is our Best budget DC pick: a 35W DC motor with a 5-blade head on a 1,380mm frame, for around ₱3,800, from a Philippine brand with nationwide service centers.

What does the DC motor give you?

The same thing it gives you on the Asahi fans, for ₱1,200 less. A 35W draw is roughly half what a 65W AC fan uses, and Hanabishi claims up to 40% energy savings against a comparable AC motor.

At 35W and eight hours a night that works out to about 8.4 kWh a month, roughly ₱124 at around ₱14.78 per kWh (Meralco, August 2026), against about ₱231 for a 65W fan. That gap of roughly ₱107 a month is the entire argument for a DC fan, and this is the cheapest way into it from a brand with a service network.

The head is a 5-blade design, which pushes a smoother stream than a 3-leaf blade, and DC motors run quieter than AC ones at the same output. Both help in a bedroom.

The documentation gap: Hanabishi publishes no airflow figure. There is no m³/min number for this model, so you cannot compare it against the Asahi DC-6082’s 54.5. You are buying the motor type and the brand, not a measured result.

How is the build?

Tall. At 1,380mm fully extended it is the tallest fan in our roundup, ahead of the Toshiba’s 1,350mm and well past the Xiaomi’s 1,000mm. That is a genuine practical benefit: the air clears a bed frame or a dining table instead of hitting the mattress, which matters when the fan sits across the room.

The frame measures 450 x 400 x 1,380mm in a plain black finish, with an oscillation function and adjustable height.

The 120-minute timer is the fan’s real flaw. Two hours does not cover a night. The whole point of pairing a DC motor with a timer is that the fan shuts off after you are asleep, and a two-hour limit means either you wake up to restart it or it runs until morning. The Asahi DC-6082 gives you nine hours; the Midea FS40-18AR gives twelve.

That is ₱1,200 less than the Asahi DC-6082 for the same 35W motor class, which is a real saving, and it undercuts every other DC fan here except by giving up the long timer and the published airflow figure.

Against the ₱2,500 Asahi PF-631, the ₱1,300 price gap closes in about fifteen months of nightly running on electricity alone, which is the fastest DC payback in our roundup. If you run a fan most nights, that is a strong case.

Buy this if you want DC efficiency on a budget from a brand you can take a broken fan to, and you do not need an overnight timer. It is the right choice for someone running a fan most nights who would rather put ₱1,200 back in their pocket than have a 9-hour timer. If the timer is how you plan to save the electricity, buy the Asahi instead, because a two-hour limit undoes the point.
