Xiaomi Smart Scale S200 vs Xiaomi Scale S400

These two sit at roughly the same price, run the same app, and take the same batteries. That makes this an unusually clean decision: you are not weighing money against features, you are choosing which kind of scale you want.

Same price, so what actually separates them?

One number each, and they point in opposite directions.

The S400 reads 25 body-composition indicators where the S200 reads weight and BMI. It uses dual-frequency sensing, which is what lets it separate muscle from water with any confidence, and Xiaomi benchmarks it against a DEXA scan.

The S200 weighs in 0.05kg steps where the S400 uses 0.1kg. It also carries the newer Bluetooth 5.4 against the S400’s 5.0, which in practice means a quicker, more reliable sync when you step off.

So the scale with fewer features is the better instrument for the one job every scale has. That is the part shoppers do not expect.

Does a 0.05kg difference matter?

For most people, no. Nobody makes a decision on 50 grams, and your weight swings by far more than that across a day from water alone.

It matters in one situation: when you are chasing a small change over a long time. If you are down about half a kilo a month, a 0.1kg step turns a slow trend into a staircase, and it takes longer before the graph tells you anything true. On the S200 the same trend reads smoother, sooner.

If that is not you, treat the two as equally precise and decide on body composition alone.

Which one for a shared family scale?

The S200, in most homes. Body-composition numbers are only useful to someone acting on them, and they carry real limits: the sensing is not advised for anyone with a pacemaker or another implanted device, or for pregnant women, and a child’s body-fat figure on a consumer scale means very little.

A household scale that everyone steps on wants to be simple, accurate on weight, and unbothered about who is standing on it. That is the S200.

Buy the S400 when one specific person in the house has a body-composition goal and will open the app to look at it. If nobody is going to read the other 24 numbers, you are paying for a graph nobody opens.

What if you are not sure you will use the app?

Both write to Xiaomi Home and only Xiaomi Home, so this is not a tiebreaker between them. It is worth checking before you buy either, though. If you are not willing to keep that app installed, most of what you are paying for on either scale goes unused, and a plain digital scale from the ranking will serve you better for a lot less.
