Weight is the number that is actually measured

A bathroom scale does one thing accurately: it weighs you. Load cells under the platform measure force, and that measurement is direct and reliable.

Everything else on a smart scale, where it is offered, comes from a second reading: a small current passed up one leg and down the other, with the resistance used to estimate composition. That path never crosses the torso, and the estimate is adjusted by a manufacturer’s formula, which is why two brands give the same person different body-fat numbers on the same morning.

A scale that leads with weight is being honest about which of the two it can do.

Why the resolution matters less than it looks

Fifty-gram steps sound precise, and your body is not that stable.

Daily body weight swings a kilo or more from food in the gut, water retention, salt and the time of day. Chasing a 50g change from Tuesday to Wednesday is reading noise.

Where the resolution earns its place is the trend across weeks. Weigh under the same conditions, ideally first thing in the morning after the bathroom and before eating or drinking, and look at the line over a month rather than the number on the day.

The floor is part of the measurement

The single most common reason people believe a scale is inaccurate.

Put it on a hard, level floor. Tiles are ideal. A bath mat, a rug or an uneven board lets the platform flex, and a flexing platform reads differently. Weighing on tiles one day and on a mat the next produces a difference that has nothing to do with you.

Leave it in one place and use that place every time.

The app question is a real one

Xiaomi’s scales report into Xiaomi’s app, on a Xiaomi account. The history, the graph and any additional metrics live there.

That is fine if you already run Xiaomi devices and it is a genuine consideration if you do not, because it is another app and another account for a bathroom scale. It also means your weight history is on someone’s server rather than on a dial.

Anyone who wants none of that should look at a plain scale: the Indoplas analog bathroom scale needs no batteries, no app and no account.

Who should buy the S200

Buy this if you want an accurate weight with a tracked history, you are already in Xiaomi’s ecosystem, and you are not buying it for body-fat percentages.

Skip it if you want composition analysis you can trust as an absolute figure, which no consumer scale provides.
