Most multivitamins list their ingredients and leave the amounts to your imagination. Centrum prints the numbers: vitamin A 4,000 IU, vitamin C 90mg, vitamin D3 600 IU, calcium 200mg, iron 5mg, zinc 7.5mg, lutein 500mcg, lycopene 600mcg, and the rest of a blend running past 25 vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

That matters more than a longer ingredient list would. A tablet naming 40 things without amounts tells you nothing about whether any of them is present in a useful quantity. A tablet naming 25 with milligrams lets you check them against what you already take, and lets you spot the doubling up that catches people who stack a multivitamin on top of a separate vitamin C.

This is the general adult formula. Centrum’s Silver Advance line is reformulated for 50 and over, with more vitamin D for bone health and lutein for eyes, because those needs genuinely change with age rather than as a marketing exercise.

If you’re over 50, the Silver version is the better fit and the difference is real. If you’re under 19, neither is aimed at you.

What a daily multivitamin actually does

Worth being plain. A multivitamin is insurance against gaps in an ordinary diet. It isn’t a treatment for anything, it won’t offset a poor diet, and for someone already eating a varied one the benefit may be small.
