Why buy a camera for its lens cover?

Because an indoor camera only works if you are willing to leave it plugged in. Most people are fine with a camera in the sala and uneasy about one in a bedroom, and the usual answer, a privacy toggle in an app, asks you to trust software you cannot inspect.

The C201’s shield physically moves across the lens. You can look at the camera and see it is closed. That is what makes it the one we would actually put in a bedroom.

There is also no baby-cry or noise detection like the C302 has, and no published warranty period.

Who should buy it

Buy this if it is going somewhere private and the lens shield is the reason you are willing to have a camera there at all, and you have pets you want filtered out of alerts. It is the right choice for a bedroom or a nursery you also want pet tracking in. If picture quality is the priority, the C100 or the C400 are better buys.

Alternatives to consider

The one to compare it against first is Xiaomi’s own C301: it has the same physical lens shield and 360° panning, steps up to 2K 3MP, and costs less at around ₱1,100.
