What the money buys against the cheaper stainless

The ART EXHIBITION stainless kitchen scale is around ₱259 on the same date. Same material claim, same absence of a capacity, same absence of a graduation.

So on published specifications there is nothing separating them except ₱196 and the ratings: this one carries a 4.6 from 149 ratings, the cheaper one a 5.0 from 95.

That is the wrong way round for a premium. If the build is genuinely better, the listing does not say how.

The 4.6 is the lowest in the category

Almost every kitchen scale here sits at 4.8 or 4.9. This is the only one at 4.6, on a sample of 149 ratings, which is large enough to mean something.

Worth opening the recent reviews and looking specifically for two things: complaints about accuracy, which is the point of the product, and complaints about the display or the battery contacts failing, which is the commonest way a cheap scale dies.

A low score on a scale is a different kind of signal from a low score on a shampoo. The whole value of the thing is that the number it shows is true.

Stainless is still worth having

The material claim is real and it is the right choice in a Philippine kitchen. Stainless does not stain from turmeric or atsuete, does not hold the smell of fish or garlic, and wipes clean, all of which plastic fails at over a few years.

It is also heavier, which keeps a light scale from sliding on a counter when you set a bowl down.

The number that decides what it can do

Graduation, not published here or on thirteen of the seventeen kitchen scales we list.

In whole grams a scale handles flour, sugar, rice and meat and cannot properly weigh yeast, salt, baking soda or coffee. In tenths it handles all of them. Every digital scale also has a minimum below which it registers nothing.

At ₱455, being told which of those you are buying is not much to ask, and the shop can answer it.

Check it the day it arrives

Put a known weight on it. A 1kg bag of sugar or a litre of water should read within a few grams. Check it holds zero empty and returns to zero after a load comes off.

On a scale where the rating is the weakest in its category, that two-minute check is the most useful thing you can do.

Who should buy the ICON

Buy this if you have seen the build in person and prefer it, or the shop confirms a specification that justifies the difference.

Skip it on the listings alone. A cheaper stainless scale here publishes exactly as much and rates higher.
