What a mechanical scale never does

It never runs out of battery. A digital bathroom scale is used once a day for ten seconds and then sits flat for a year, which is exactly the use pattern that kills coin cells and corrodes contacts.

It never needs an app. No account, no pairing, no software update, no weight history on someone else’s server.

It never stops being supported. A smart scale whose app is abandoned loses its history and often most of its function. A spring does not have a end-of-life date.
