A tower fan is a tall, slim housing wrapped around a cylindrical blower. It will not lower your room temperature by a degree, but it will make the room feel cooler for a fraction of what an aircon costs to run.

Wattage and airflow together

We ranked on published wattage and airflow first, because together they say how much air you get per peso of electricity. Then oscillation angle, speed steps and modes, owner ratings on Shopee PH, warranty, and DTI-BPS safety certification where the seller publishes the license number.

DC inverter or AC motor?

This is the single spec that decides your running cost, and it is worth understanding before anything else.

Wider than people assume, and this spec varies more than any other in the category.

• A remote. More important here than on a stand fan, because the controls sit on top of a tall unit. Without one, nobody gets up at 2am to change the speed.
• Timer length. 8 to 15 hours across this group. The Haier’s 15 hours is the longest.
• How it cleans. A detachable rear grille, or a bladeless loop you simply wipe. Dust builds fast in Philippine homes and a sealed tower is a chore.
