OXO Good Grips 500ml angled measuring cup review

The angle does real work at this depth

An ordinary jug has to be set on a flat surface and read with your eye level with the mark. Look down into it from standing and the line reads low, every time, which is the most common measuring error in any kitchen.

OXO’s answer is a second scale on a sloped surface inside the cup, tilted to face upward. You fill it, glance down, and read it without moving.

That matters in proportion to how awkward the jug is to read from the side. A 250ml cup is shallow and easy anyway. A 500ml is tall enough that the crouch is a genuine nuisance, so this is where the design pays for itself.

Five hundred is the size a kitchen actually uses

A jug has to hold enough for stock, milk and batter while staying narrow enough that the lower graduations are readable. Around 500ml is where those meet.

Go up to a litre and 50ml near the base becomes a guess. Drop to 250ml and you are measuring twice for anything substantial. Most households that own one jug should own one this size, whatever brand it is.

What it costs against the rest of the shelf

Around ₱531 is more than double the Eurochef 9500 500ml borosilicate jug at around ₱279, and roughly four and a half times the Locaupin borosilicate jug.

A plain glass jug measures exactly as accurately, if you put it on the counter and crouch. What you are buying here is the habit you will actually keep, plus OXO’s handle and finish.

Whether that trade is worth it comes down to how often you measure liquid. Daily, it is defensible. Twice a month, it is not.

Buy this if you measure liquids most days, you want the angled reading, and you want it in the size that uses it best.

Skip it if a jug comes out of your cupboard twice a month, where a borosilicate jug at a fifth of the price does the same job.
