Two scales, one price, one metric count

The OOKAS 12-in-1 smart body scale is around ₱299 on the same date, also sold on twelve metrics, also from a marketplace-facing brand.

Neither publishes a resolution, a maximum capacity or a platform size. So nothing in the specifications separates them, and the decision comes down to three visible things: the shop, the app each one uses, and the buying history behind the listing.

Check the second of those before ordering either. The app is the part you will interact with daily and the part most likely to be abandoned, and a generic app that stops being updated takes your weight history with it.

Twelve is not a meaningful number

Worth understanding once, because the metric count is how these listings compete.

A body-composition scale takes two readings: weight from the load cells, and impedance from a small current up one leg and down the other. Body fat, muscle mass, bone mass, water, visceral fat, protein, BMI and metabolic age are all calculated from those two, plus the height, age and sex you entered.

So a twelve-metric scale and a twenty-metric scale are doing the same thing and slicing the output differently. Choosing one over the other on the count is choosing on presentation.

The weight is the part you can trust

Load cells are cheap, mature and accurate, which is why a ₱299 scale weighs you about as well as a ₱2,300 one.

The composition figures are estimates from a manufacturer’s formula at every price. Foot-to-foot impedance never crosses your torso, so the reading extrapolates the whole body from the path through your legs, and the number moves with hydration: a salty dinner, a hot day or a hard workout all shift it.

Read it as a direction over weeks, under consistent conditions, and it is useful. Read a single morning’s percentage as fact and it is not.

Getting a comparable reading

Same time of day, ideally first thing after the bathroom and before eating or drinking. Hard, level floor, not a bath mat, because a flexing platform reads differently. And weeks rather than days, since normal daily weight swings a kilo or more.

Anyone with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device should not use an impedance scale at all.

Who should buy the Gold Star

Buy this if you want a cheap smart scale, you have looked at which app it uses, and weight is the number you actually care about.

Skip it if you want long-term data, where a maintained app matters more than the scale.
