Mitsushi MIT-NHR4 review: a working riveter for pocket change

The Mitsushi MIT-NHR4 is our Best Budget hand riveter: four nozzles covering 2.4mm to 4.8mm, a spanner, and a spring-loaded locking handle, at around ₱31 with 6,296 owner ratings.

Is it really a working tool at this price?

Yes, with limits worth knowing before you buy.

What arrives is a complete riveter: steel arms, red moulded grips, four nozzles for the common blind rivet sizes stored on the body, and the spanner to change them. Nothing is missing from the kit, which is the first surprise.

The second is the spring-loaded handle with a locking hook. The spring opens the arms for you between rivets, and the hook clips them shut so the tool lies flat in a drawer instead of springing open and snagging everything around it. Several riveters at ten times the price do not have that hook.

6,296 owner ratings at 4.8 is the third surprise. That is the second deepest owner record in this whole category.

Where does it give itself away?

In the arms, mostly.

They are lighter gauge than an Ingco or a Tolsen, and you feel it at 4.8mm. The smaller sizes set easily. The largest one flexes the arms noticeably and takes real effort, which on a run of rivets becomes tiring in a way a heavier tool does not.

It is also shorter than the 10.5 inch tools here, and length is leverage, so that is part of the same story.

The pivot and the jaws are where a cheap riveter wears out. Jaws that round off start slipping on the mandrel, and the pivot develops play. That will happen sooner here than on a tool built to a higher standard, which is exactly what you would expect.

No stem collector, no swivel head, no replaceable nose.

Is the Mitsushi MIT-NHR4 sulit?

At this price the question is not whether it is good value, it is whether owning one at all is worth ₱31, and it clearly is.

The comparison that matters is against not owning a riveter. Borrowing one, or driving to a hardware shop for a job that takes two minutes, costs more than this in time and fare alone. Even as a spare that lives in a car boot, it earns its place.

Who the Mitsushi MIT-NHR4 suits

Buy this if a riveter is a tool you will reach for once or twice a year and you would rather own one than hunt for one. It is the right choice as a first riveter, a spare, or a car-boot tool. If you rivet regularly, work at 4.8mm often, or want something that will still be tight in five years, spend up to the Ingco.
