Tolsen 43096 review: the one that sets 6.4mm stainless

What can it do that a 10.5 inch tool cannot?

Set the big stainless rivets, and that is the whole reason it exists.

Tolsen publishes the chart properly, split by material:

• Stainless steel: 2.4mm, 3.2mm, 4.0mm, 4.8mm, 6.4mm
• Iron and aluminium: 2.4mm, 3.2mm, 4.0mm, 4.8mm

That split is worth pausing on, because almost nobody else in this category publishes it. A 4.8mm rivet in soft aluminium and a 4.8mm rivet in stainless are very different jobs, and a tool rated for one is not automatically rated for the other. Tolsen telling you which is a mark of a real spec sheet.

The 6.4mm stainless capability is what puts it at the top of the heavy duty end here. Setting one takes enough force that 13 inches of arm stops being a nice-to-have and becomes the mechanism that makes it possible.

What does the extra size cost you?

Access, and money.

Thirteen inches will not fit inside a kitchen cabinet, along a narrow duct run, or into a wheel arch. Those are exactly the places riveters get used, and a 10.5 inch tool goes there happily. If you buy this as your only riveter, you will eventually meet a job it cannot reach.

The powder coated aluminium alloy body keeps the weight down over that long arm, which genuinely matters when you are holding it out at gutter height. The trade is that aluminium dents where steel would scuff.

And it costs several times a 10.5 inch riveter that covers the four common sizes.

For a household, no, and we would say so plainly. The rivets a house needs are 3.2mm and 4.0mm, and the Ingco HRS108 at around ₱216 sets those all day.

For anyone whose work actually involves 6.4mm stainless, the calculation flips entirely, because no cheaper tool here will do it. Fabricators, sheet metal workers, anyone repairing marine or outdoor structures where stainless is the only sensible fastener: this is the tool, and ₱920 is a working cost rather than a splurge.
