For occasional welding that is not worth it. For someone welding weekly and running long beads, the window and the sensitivity control earn their keep quickly.

It sets how strong an arc must be before the lens darkens. Turn it up for low-amp TIG, where a weak arc might not trigger a less sensitive helmet. Turn it down if shop fluorescent lights or a neighbour's arc make the lens flicker while you are not welding. It is the control most helmets omit.
