A cordless stick vacuum is the appliance most often bought on a headline number and regretted a month later, because peak pascals and best-case runtime are the two least useful figures on the box. Here is what the numbers actually mean, and which vacuums hold up.

Suction in airwatts came first, then runtime at full power

We started with suction, and specifically with airwatts over pascals where a brand publishes them, because airwatts combine pressure with airflow and airflow is what lifts dirt off a floor. Then we read runtime in max mode rather than the advertised eco figure, since max is what you use on ingrained dirt and the gap between the two is often three to one. After that came filtration rating, bin capacity, weight, and whether there is an anti-tangle brush bar, which in a Pinoy household with long hair or pets is the difference between a vacuum that keeps working and one you cut hair off every month. We gave real weight to removable batteries, because a sealed pack turns a worn cell into a dead vacuum. Finally we weighed local warranty and service, and we read rating counts, since a 5.0 from nine buyers says far less than a 4.9 from four thousand.

Airwatts count airflow, which is what lifts the dirt

Both get advertised. They measure different things.

• Pascals (Pa or kPa) measure sealed suction pressure. It is the number house brands love, because it produces big figures. On its own it tells you nothing about airflow.
• Airwatts (AW) combine suction with airflow, which is what actually lifts dirt off a floor and carries it up the tube. It is the more honest measure and the harder one to inflate.

The practical problem is that brands publish whichever suits them, and some publish neither. Both BLACK+DECKER models on this list give no suction figure at all. Panasonic quotes a 70W suction rating, which is a third measure again.

So compare within a brand where you can. Dreame is consistent enough to be useful: 120AW on the R10, 155AW on the V10S, 160AW on the V20, 220AW on the V50 Pro.

And keep a sense of scale. 7kPa on the Midea and 5,500Pa on the Deerma are entry-level figures. 20kPa to 27kPa is the mid-range and up. That gap is real, and it is what you feel on a rug.

Expect half the advertised runtime or less on max

40 to 60 minutes in the standard mode covers a full clean in a typical Filipino home.

The trap is that the advertised figure is always the lowest power setting. Look at what max mode actually does:

• Deerma VC20 Plus: 30 minutes standard, 15 minutes on high
• Midea 2-in-1: 45 minutes normal, 17 minutes on max
• Roborock F25 Ace Pro: 60 minutes eco, 30 minutes on max

Max mode is what you use on ingrained dirt and pet hair, so read that number as the real one. A vacuum advertising 60 minutes that gives you 17 on full power is a different product from one that gives you 40.

Also check the charge time, which nobody advertises. The Deerma takes up to 3.5 hours to deliver 30 minutes of cleaning; the Lotus X30 PRO takes 5 hours for its 70. If you clean in short bursts across a week, that is fine. If you clean the whole house in one go, plan around it.

Why the battery decides how long the vacuum lasts

This is the spec that separates a five-year vacuum from a two-year one, and it is almost never discussed.

Every lithium pack degrades. The question is what happens when yours does:

• Sealed battery. A worn cell means the whole vacuum is finished. Most sticks here are built this way, including the Deerma.
• Removable battery. You buy a battery. Both BLACK+DECKER models use POWERCONNECT 20V Max packs, shared across the brand’s wider tool range, so a spare doubles your runtime and a replacement is a normal purchase.

Battery chemistry matters too. The Midea uses a Ni-MH pack rather than lithium-ion, which is unusual in 2026: Ni-MH is heavier per unit of charge, self-discharges in storage, and ages faster.

1.4 to 1.8kg counts as light for a stick vacuum

• Weight. Most of the work is holding the thing up. 1.4kg to 1.8kg is light; the Midea is 1.4kg, the Panasonic and both Dreame flagships are 1.6kg. A carbon fiber wand, as on the Dreame V10S, helps on overhead work.
• Anti-tangle brush bars. In a house with long hair or pets, this is the difference between a vacuum that keeps working and one you have to cut hair off monthly.
• Dust detection lights. Dreame’s green laser and LED systems show fine dust you would otherwise walk past. Genuinely useful on tile, useless on carpet.
• Bin capacity. 0.3L to 0.6L is normal. The Lotus X30 PRO’s 500ml is generous. A small bin on a big house means emptying mid-clean.
• Filtration. H13 HEPA (the Lotus) is a real medical-grade rating. 99.9% claims are common. Panasonic’s EPA filter captures 95%, which is a step below. Washable filters mean nothing to rebuy.
• Converting to handheld. Almost all of these do it. It is what makes the vacuum useful on stairs, a sofa, and a car interior, and it is a big part of the value.

Will a 7kPa stick clean a rug?

Suction is best read in airwatts: 120AW to 160AW is the capable middle, 220AW is flagship territory, and in pascals 20kPa and up is where a vacuum handles rugs while 5,500Pa to 7kPa is a light surface clean. Runtime should be read in max mode, where 15 to 30 minutes is common even on units advertising 45 to 60. Battery type matters twice over: lithium-ion over Ni-MH, and removable over sealed, because that is what decides whether year four means a new battery or a new vacuum. Weight of 1.4kg to 1.8kg is what makes above-floor cleaning bearable. An anti-tangle brush is close to essential with pets. Filtration runs from EPA at 95% up to H13 HEPA, and washable filters save a running cost. Check bin capacity (0.3L to 0.6L is normal) against your floor area, and check the charge time, which ranges from 3.5 to 5 hours and is never advertised.
